What brought you to Edward Jones?
I was searching for summer internships when I came across a posting on my school's career services page. I also visited the Edward Jones table at our spring career fair, and I became convinced that I wanted to apply to the firm.
Describe your role within the firm.
My role at the firm is to be the contact person for our branch teams and other Home Office departments in regard to the equity markets. I can be talking to one branch team about the latest stock news, and then the very next interaction I have can be in regard to an exchange-traded fund with international stock exposure. I need to be able to provide friendly, accurate, timely and appropriate solutions for our clients.
What was it about Edward Jones that seemed to be different from other places?
The culture of our firm really resonated with me when I went through my summer internship. Everyone at Edward Jones is so welcoming and wants to see you succeed. They will help you get where you want to be, and you do not feel like you are in an environment where everyone is competing against one another.
Articulate the spirit of volunteerism that exists at Edward Jones. How have you been involved and what was that experience like?
There is never a shortage of volunteer opportunities being shared in our Home Office communications. Edward Jones encourages everyone to be actively involved in the community. They even allow you to take a paid day off work, known as a Day of Caring, to volunteer for an organization of your choice. I've had the chance to volunteer with Project C.U.R.E., which is the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries around the world. It is a genuinely rewarding experience knowing that you are making an impact in other people's lives.
What qualities do you think a person needs to have to succeed at Headquarters?
I think there are three very important qualities that someone needs to have to be successful in the Home Office environment. You need to be a self-driven individual, be open to others' points of views and ideas and always think two steps ahead so you never grow complacent.
There are very few offices at Edward Jones, with nearly all the firm's leaders located in cubicles. What does this structure mean to you?
This structure reinforces the openness and culture of our firm. Everyone is on a first-name basis, and you never have to feel bad about approaching others’ cubicles to pick their brain about something. I see this as a positive structure for increased interaction and camaraderie among all levels of the firm.
