Do You Have a Healthy Work-Life Balance?

With our ability to stay constantly connected to work via technology, it can be difficult to know when to disconnect. You’ve probably heard the term “work-life balance” a lot lately – but what exactly does it mean, and how do you know if you have it? We’ve developed a quick quiz to help you find out where you stand.

  1. You have a three-day holiday weekend coming up. What do you plan on doing with that extra downtime?

    1. Catch up on work and plan my to-do lists for the week ahead. I can’t afford downtime, even if the office is closed.

    2. I may answer some emails but I’ll most likely use the opportunity to relax or do something special with my family.

    3. I’ll try to catch up on work, but I wish I could just spend the time sleeping. I’m exhausted, even on the weekends.

  2. How do you feel about being constantly connected to work via technology?

    1. Answering emails or taking business calls outside of work takes up a significant amount of my time. Shutting off my phone is not an option.

    2. I enjoy the flexibility and convenience, but I know where to draw the line. I have no problem ignoring emails or calls when necessary.

    3. I feel pressured to be available at all times. It’s difficult to manage that expectation.

  3. How do you practice self-care?

    1. I try to get to the gym most mornings but often skip it in order to get to the office early. I can’t concentrate on anything else when there’s a massive amount of work to be done.

    2. I’ve got a daily routine down that allows me to take care of my health. Having time to relax and de-stress every day is important to me.

    3. I don’t have the energy to practice self-care.

  4. If you answered mostly A’s, then it could be time to make some adjustments. Maintaining a lifestyle that revolves solely around work is untenable. Take time to reflect on your overall satisfaction with your career. You might consider setting some specific boundaries between work and personal time.

    If you answered mostly B’s, then congratulations – you seem to have your work-life balance in order. Your career is important to you, but so is your personal life and your health. Keep up the good work!
