3 Ways to Give Back

But giving back is more than a task on a to-do list for our financial advisors—it’s a vital part of their role in the community. Take a look at a few simple ways you can show support for what matters most and how it can benefit your career along the way.

  1. Promote local businesses - Our financial advisors operate individual branch offices. In many ways, they’re building a business from the ground up, relying on word of mouth and their own ambition to find success. To pay it forward, many financial advisors promote and support other local businesses, creating new connections and networking opportunities along the way. You can do the same by encouraging yourself and others to support local businesses, such as grocery stores and restaurants.

  2. Offer your time - Many charity organizations rely on a network of volunteers in order to function. One of the easiest ways to support these organizations is by donating a bit of free time every week or month. Start by identifying a local cause you care about that requires regular volunteers. This could be a food pantry, an animal shelter or hospital. Then, set up a time in your schedule when you can consistently offer your time. Volunteering can become an integral part of your routine.

  3. Offer your experience - It’s likely that you have skills and experiences that could go beyond typical volunteer responsibilities. As a leader in your industry, you could deliver tremendous benefit by identifying an organization in need of your talents. For example, many accountants offer tax consultation to non-profit organizations. If you’re in sales or service, consider offering a business seminar to leaders of the organization offering tips to help them thrive in the next year. This will increase your thought leadership and open the door for new networking opportunities.

It’s easy to give back once or twice a year, but investing time and energy into making it a large part of your life has invaluable personal and professional benefits.
